Wimbledon’s 2012 profits leapt 7.1 percent to a record $60.8 million (U.S. dollars), the Lawn Tennis Association said in a report cited by various news agencies. Wimbledon has seen its profits rise 47 percent since 2008.

The LTA has spent $19.8 million developing British tennis players and more than $28 million in an attempt to increase participation in the sport. The number of active adult players in Britain rose by 11 percent to 417,700, while active players in the 16-and-under group rose to 58,400.
